The cowardly climbdown by councillors over the bin collections is an utter disgrace. Services for disabled and disadvantaged children have been cut in favour of protecting the right of the greedy and rich to waste more. Meanwhile those of us responsible enough to recycle have to pay for a service we don't use as much and Gateshead Council is hurtling towards a massive fine for failing to reduce landfill.
